I woke up Saturday morning hoping there were strong winds from Hurricane Ike that would let me sleep in and not ride (I'm done with riding in 30+ mph winds since Ironman Arizona last year!). Well, unfortunately it kept getting downgraded here in DFW but there was plenty of rain and the occasional gust of wind. BUT - due to staying out late at GrapeFest the night before (til midnight - ugh!) I did not get up early to ride. No thank you. Does it count that we got a lot done around the house?
Today was my 2 hour run (after a 30 min bike). We decided to sleep in a bit again and start whenever we get up. At first all I could keep thinking about was "Man, I would be half-way through my run right now had we started at 6:45" but yet it was 8:30 and we were just leaving for the lake!
I can really tell my long runs are getting better - my endurance is getting better. I made it consistently through 1h15min and 6 1 minute pick ups before getting the urge to walk (which I almost always seem to satisfy that urge, unfortunately). The next 45 minutes felt like forever, but I finished. I made it ~7.5 miles before having to walk, and to me that is progress. I just wish I could do all 2 hours without stopping, but maybe one day I will. While on my run, I realized it was probably good to get a run in later than usual (I finished a little before noon) - my 13 mile run won't happen until 10:30 or 11, so this was good to get in during the middle of the day in the heat and humidity!
Longhorn 70.3 is in 3 weeks from today! Yikes!
Next weekend is Tour des Fleurs - I'm working the booth for OrangeCup...maybe I can still run it and then help out during the after-race party. If you're out there - make sure you stop by for some awesome and healthy frozen yogurt!!
